TV Station in a Box adds new features, enhancements, better value The next version of the Video Toaster for Windows is now available, and the first thing you'll have to do is stop calling it the Video Toaster. It's now officially called VT[3] ($2995 for capture card and software), and that, according to its creator NewTek, isn't really an acronym any more. But there's still that huge feature set, with VT[3] bringing you almost everything you need to create all kinds of uncompressed video, live, and all in one box. Besides new editing improvements and added features throughout its extensive feature set, you get a full-boat copy of LightWave 3D 7.5 in the box. When NewTek calls this an integrated production suite, they're not kidding. Stargate CEO talks about efficiency, quick turnaround and people power at the top of the TV industry In part two of this interview with Stargate President and CEO Sam Nicholson, the Hollywood effects veteran describes the technological and artistic challenges of producing high-end feature-quality effects for 14 television network series, while still working under the constraints of a TV budget and timetable. He also tells us about his stellar team of artists who make it all happen on time and under budget ![]() I've known for some time that Sony Vegas can compete feature-for-feature with other well-known non-linear video and audio editing software on the market. Unfortunately, Vegas users were missing a custom keyboard that not only helps them edit faster, but looks great, too. The wait is over. ![]() Creating a custom wipe transition with Adobe After Effects and Maxon Cinema 4D By using Adobe After Effects, you can make all types of creative wipes for use in your favorite NLE. And, with the aid of Maxon Cinema 4D, you can add some 3D volume to your wipe shapes. We'll take a look this week at one technique combining these two programs to produce the effect of 3D leaves blowing across the screen to transition between clips. Staging a Comeback, NYC Post Facilities Challenge Ideas About the East Coast When Guava, the visual-effects offshoot of Nice Shoes that launched in New York City last year, pursued a gig doing high-end visual-effects work for Radio City Music Halls mammoth multimedia celebration of Frank Sinatra, it was bidding against L.A. studios that consider this kind of work a gimme. According to VFX Producer Mary-Joy Lu, when Guava won the job, it represented a victory over the perception that New York is not a place where intensive, high-level special effects work can take place. |
