Dell Precision Mobile Workstation M60
Dell's pocket rocket puts most desktop workstations to shame

Dell has released a workstation-class notebook that's built like a truck, looks like a gleaming aircraft, is exceedingly fast and powerful, and comes packed with components that were once only available on desktop workstations. Is it suitable for digital video editing, high end presentations and 3D graphics work? There's only one way to answer that three-part query: Yes, yes and yes. Here's our review.

Useful Assistants
Helpful assistants a click away

Remember the story of the shoe cobbler who had little fellows come into his shop to cobble shoes at night? These assistants helped the cobbler when he was pressed for time. Having elves help with our After Effects work would be cool, if only we could lure them into our electronic sweatshops. If you were impressed with Profound Effects Useful Things, you are going to find their latest product Useful Assistants a blessing, and you don’t have to worry about elf uprisings.

Total Training: Adobe After Effects 6.0
DVD series reviewed

When Adobe released the update to their popular compositing and animation program, users scrambled to find resource material to learn the latest and greatest features. First out of the block was Total Training and their Total Training for Adobe After Effects 6.0 DVD series.

Moving To HD
High-definition acquisition is on the rise, but finishing in HD is still a long way off

If you went to NAB this year, you probably heard the now familiar cry of the professional production hardware vendors, each one proclaiming a variation on the “HD is here” refrain. This year, however, with yet another push from the FCC toward an all-digital TV signal and the release of robust and more affordable HD equipment, it seems as if market interest has finally caught up with vendors’ R&D vision. Commercials, broadcast programming, even theatrical releases, are using HD equipment on a regular basis.

FCC Cable Plug-And-Play Adoption Swings DTV Transition Floodgates Wide Open
Digital Cable Ready HDTV Sets to Become a Reality for America's Seventy Million Cable Households

Celebrating the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) seal of approval today on the historic "plug-and-play" agreement struck between major cable operators and consumer electronics manufacturers in December 2002, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) lauded the Commission for paving the way for swift and successful delivery of digital high-definition television (HDTV) products to U.S. cable households.
