![]() Helpful hints to start your digi-vid year right It's that time of year when many you are heading back to school, saying goodbye to the laid-back rhythms of summer and returning to academic pursuits. It reminds me of the time when I first headed off to college, and with my nose pressed against the glass of the airplane window (yes, they did have aircraft back then -- circa 1975), I wondered if this pursuit was even worth it. I wondered what would become of me. At the time, I wished there was some way I could receive a message from myself decades in my future, packed with helpful hints that would steer me in the right direction. What would I need to do to prepare myself to be a better video editor, and a better video production person in general? Since there is indeed no way to receive such a letter from the future, dear reader, the next best thing is for me to offer a few tips for you budding digital video editors now, noses pressed up against airplane (or bus, car or train) windows, wondering what will become of you. So if you're venturing forth into the world of digital content creation, here are a few helpful hints. ![]() SNEAK PREVIEW It was an honor when Douglas Spotted Eagle asked me to look at an advance galley of his eagerly awaited Vegas 4 Editing Workshop book. I thought I'd give you an advance review/preview of the book. Vegas users -- from novice to veteran -- will find that he has written the definitive reference on this powerful NLE. You'll have the book in one hand, the mouse in the other as you go back and forth between the pages and your computer. Sound track creation software can be a lifesaver, not for composers, though Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you've intricately planned a video edit session or presentation down to the last detail but suddenly realize you've forgotten the music? There's no time or money to hire someone to compose something, and you need a few cuts of odd lengths, none of which are on any of your stock music CDs. You're stuck. Wait. No, you're not. There's SmartSound Sonicfire Pro 3.1, a Mac OS X and PC-based application which can solve your problem, lickety-split. And it's fun to play with, too. ![]() Professional DVD Authoring and encoding suite As Apple releases DVD Studio Pro 2.0 this week, it's not just the commercial DVD authoring community that's paying attention. With the software's drastically reduced price point, ease of use, enhanced functionality and integration features, this comprehensive software suite opens itself up to the entire creative production market--from presentation professionals to videographers to post-production houses to broadcasters. DVD Studio Pro 2.0 is simply a must buy for anybody working in the DVD medium. ![]() Digital Media Facility Trends Report Shows Video Editing, Video Production and Audio as Top 3 Services Offered The Digital Media Facility Trends Report includes a host of trend information and breaks out all data by vertical user markets as follows: Animation/Graphics/FX, Broadcast, Computer, Internet Services, Corporate, Communications, Freelancer/Independent, Institutional, MMedia/Games, Other, Post, Pro Audio, and Video/Film Production. |
