Bumper crop of great spots elevates commercial production to an art form

Digital Media Net's Charlie White takes a look at the editing technique used in the best of the best of this year's Super Bowl spots, and comments on some of the ad content as well.

LaCie and Maxtor: Big Disks
In some circumstances, size really does matter

Disk space is cheap these days. That's why, for not too much money, you can get your hands on a 1394 external disk that can store hours and hours of DV footage for about as much as you'd pay for a day at Disney World. We took a couple of these Mac and PC-compatible behemoths out for a spin -- LaCie's Big Disk 400GB and Maxtor's Personal Storage 5000XT 250GB -- comparing and contrasting the features of each. Here's our review.

Image Sequences in Final Cut Pro
Importing sequences while maintaining alpha channels

A reader wrote in to me last week with a problem he was having with Final Cut Pro. The problem: importing an image sequence. It occurred to me then that I had never even thought of doing this in Final Cut Pro, let alone tried it. My immediate inclination was that FCP ought to handle image sequences the way any other program does--especially since it's from Apple--and that the issue was with the images themselves, not the import process. Not even close.
