The HD Revolution: Has It Finally Arrived?
National Mobile Television CEO believes 2003 is the "Year of the Revolution"

At a conference in New York sponsored by Thomson/Grass Valley, National Mobile Television CEO Mark Howorth laid down the gauntlet for HD remote production. In his electrifying speech, the CEO of the company that supplies all the trucks for ABC -- including all the trucks for the recent Super Bowl broadcast -- explains his company's philosophy about the HDTV revolution, and describes how and why he's placing a huge bet on the new technology. Here's the full text of his remarks.

3rd Party Plug-ins: Keying
Going outside the After Effects box

I really like and appreciate the keying plug-ins found in Adobe After Effects 5.5 Standard and Production Bundles. Nearly every single green screen or blue screen composite that I have done over the last two years, has been completed with the keying capabilities Adobe has included in the application. However, for some people, spending any length of time making adjustments to the built in plug-ins may be too much time taken from the post process. For those times, you may want to go outside the box and take a look at some 3rd party keying plug-ins.

Combustion 2 for After Effects Users
Part 1: Working with Illustrator files

Combustion 2 can be had for just under a thousand dollars now, down from five times that much not so long ago. That means there probably will be quite a few new Combustion users out there, and since it's probably not a stretch to assume that some of these users are coming to Combustion with some level of After Effects expertise, we thought it might be a nice gesture to offer a few tidbits to help out with the transition.

The Hottest Thing Since Sliced Bread – DVD !!
The DVD market continues to expand rapidly

The DVD market has seen over three years of stupendous growth, and it shows no signs of slowing down. The technology has caught the imagination and interest of consumers. DVD set-top box players have boomed in sales due to the price-elasticity of this segment. As of December, 2002 the average selling price of DVD players has fallen from $504 in July 1998 to $129 in major retail outlets, and some units are going for as low as $59. In the year 2003, the overall DVD market is poised to explode again as DVD enters new markets.
